ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lynn Stenzel

"Growing up on the plains there was an empty, unrestricted vision of the horizon where the earth met the sky.  One could not escape a sense of AWE of living on the land surrounded by vast space dominated by an immense ever-changing sky.  My respect for nature increased when storms rolled in, creating thunderous responses to crackling lightning, which was thrilling and frightening." -Lynn Stenzel

Painter Lynn Stenzel, a former Serigraphy Printmaker, now works in two mediums:  acrylic on canvas and pastel on paper.  Her large landscape and sky-scape paintings capture the vast expanse of the open plains, which are heightened by the drama of an intense stormy sky.

Stenzel received M.A. and B.A. degrees from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, and her work is represented in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States and internationally. Her work has been described as:

"Dramatic, intense and yet serene"

"Calm, centered works"

"Striking and more so in simplicity

ROY SONNEMA PH.D.

"Just east of the Front Range, where the western mountains begin,

are the extensive ranch lands, open country and vast sky of the high plains.  The open,

boundless space and the emotional effect it has are difficult to successfully capture on the

surface of a painting, but Lynn Stenzel is an artist who knows how to do such images.

She grew up on the high plains, and the emotional content of her imagery comes from deep personal experience.  In Stenzel's paintings, human presence is suggested, not by

figures in the landscapes, but by a tiny ranch house under a huge sky or by a lonely

road disappearing toward the horizon, or an abandoned barn.  Anyone who

has experienced the vast space, the bare confrontation of land and sky, the minimal landscape,

the endless rivers of wind and the exquisite loneliness of the high plains, will respond to

Stenzel's paintings."
